An exciting new TV show has been launched which aims to expose viewers to the talents and skills of Cape Town’s magicians. The mini-series, titled “Impossible – the magic and magicians of Cape Town,” will feature some of the Mother City’s best young performers, as they join hosts Alexander May and Sinethemba Bawuti to give viewers a glimpse into the world of magic.

The show is a co-production between Cape Town TV and Alexander May and will be broadcast fortnightly during the youth programme Ekse on the channel.

Alexander May is one of the most established South African magicians, who started his career in the late 1990s, and over the years, has performed at numerous events in South Africa and abroad. He has also won several awards for his craft, including the Daelin Trophy in 2013 and 2022, and the national award for best Stage Magician in 2023.

His co-host for the show, Sinethemba Bawuti, is a graduate of the College of Magic and currently on their teaching staff. He has performed in various countries and television channels around the world and was just recently the subject of a short documentary on an Austrian TV channel.

“Impossible” will feature eight young and up-and-coming magicians from Cape Town, who have been selected from a pool of talented magicians from the city. Many of the guests will be students or graduates of The College of Magic in Claremont who have achieved successes in the world of magic. Alexander May believes that their passion and talents deserve to be displayed to the public as well, and at the same time offer viewers high-quality entertainment. Each episode will have one of the young magicians as they perform their unique brand of magic for the viewers, as well as performances by the hosts.

The guest performer for the first episode will be Anja Steyn, a student at the College of Magic. She won both the Youth Stage and Close-up Competitions of the International Brotherhood of Magicians convention in Atlanta in the USA in 2022.

The first episode will be broadcast on 19 April 2023 during the Ekse youth programme, starting at 17:00. Cape Town TV is a free-to-air channel and can also be found on DSTV channel 263.
